The 1 istry of Foreign Affairs present their

compliments to His Majesty's "mbassy and have the honour to state that the Manking Punicipal Government entruste^ the Canton Municipal Government with the purchase in Hongkong on their behalf of 20,000 gas masks of British make, but that the anton Municipal Goverment replies by telegraph to the effect that as the outcome of their negotiations with the Hongkong Government on the subject the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is require to approach His Majesty's Embassy with a request to obtain by tele- graph the sanction of His majesty's Government before

the transaction can be effecten.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs have accoraingly the honour to request His Majesty's Embassy to telegraph forthwith a request to His Majesty's overnment that instructions be sent to the Hongkong Government to

authorise purchase ana export, an trust that they may

be favourea with a reply.
